My Journey
Hi there! I am Priyanka Polisetty. I really love food!! Who doesn’t, right? I grew up in a household where there were no rules on what to eat. My father is a huge foodie and I got to taste all kinds of foods with him. While growing up, I experienced that a small change in my diet habits made a lot of difference in how I felt. That piqued my interest in nutrition and lead me to choose nutrition as my career.

When I started college, like most newbies, I used to think nutrition was all about “counting calories”. However, my education has taught me that food is so much more than just “fuel” or “energy” or “calories”. I realized that food is the molecular information we send to cells in our body to nourish every time we eat. We are literally communicating with our body to thrive and behave in certain way through food. The food we eat has the potential to determine our health and whether we lead a disease-free life.

After I started my practice, I observed that people used to think nutrition is just meant for weight loss and the cookie cutter diet plans prescribed by other dietitians were making their patients fear food and feel insecure. This made the healing process stressful and complicated and not sustainable. I worked towards destigmatizing this notion and educated my patients on importance of clean eating and empowered them to choose food wisely. I began to see my role as a Nutritionist is helping people to nurture, heal and become more active. This in-turn should help them reach their goals like minimizing their symptoms, medications, flare ups or losing weight. Every body is different and every metabolism is unique and the diet has to be so.

I believe that giving a long list of foods to avoid makes eating stressful and overwhelming. Instead, I designed a system that emphasizes a lot on customizing each patient’s nutrition plan based on their interests, lifestyle, condition and cultural habits. I worked with them 1:1 to make it their lifestyle. The flexibility built into my plans had my patients adhere to the plan long term and helped them in recovery. It gave me immense pleasure when I could see my clients make food choices with more conviction and knowledge. I witnessed many of my clients recover, heal and achieve their health goals with this approach.

After moving to US, I also ventured into food safety and worked in food industry. That gave me extensive knowledge on the safety standards and food manufacturing practices. With all my knowledge and expertise, I started nutrition programs at Poshan designed to help clients find their path to a well-nourished life and start living without limits. At Poshan, we help you create a healthy relationship with food and rediscover the pleasure of eating.
